Mr. Ellis was appointed to the board in June 2007 to fill a vacancy and re-elected to his second term in November 2012. Mr. Ellis has a BS degree from Texas A&M University, College Station and a Juris Doctorate from The University of Texas School of Law. He is an oil and gas lawyer for EOG Resources, Inc. Mr. Ellis was admitted to the State Bar of Texas and State Bar of California. He and his wife Sharon have four children; three of which have graduated from Flour Bluff High School and one who is currently enrolled in FBISD. He is an active community member and has served as a board member for the Flour Bluff ISD Foundation for Educational Excellence, Inc. He is currently an active member of the Corpus Christi Association Petroleum Landmen and involved with the Journey to Damascus ministry.
Shirley Thornton was elected to serve on the Board in May 2011 and re-elected in November 2014. She is a retired teacher who taught junior high English for twenty-eight years and served as a new-teacher mentor for two years in Flour Bluff ISD. She has called Flour Bluff her home since 1968 and has been happily married to Robert Thornton, a retired masonry contractor, since 1976. They and their three children are all proud graduates of Flour Bluff High School. They look forward to seeing their grandchildren become FBISD graduates, as well. In between tending to her grandchildren, she serves as a church, school, and community volunteer.
Mr. Morgan was appointed to the board in July 2014 to fill a vacancy and re-elected for this position in November 2014. Mr. Morgan previously served on the school board from 1985 – 1991. He, his wife, Leona, and sons Dillon and Aaron are all graduates of Flour Bluff High School. Both Mike and Leona are former teachers of FBISD. Mr. Morgan is an insurance agent and has his own agency with State Farm Insurance. Mr. Morgan is very active in the community and has served on many civic and community boards.
Brian Grunberg was elected to the board in November 2014. He is currently a Construction Sales Representative for Republic Services. Mr. Grunberg is a 1991 graduate of Flour Bluff and has a Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Protection and Safety Engineering from Oklahoma State University-Class of 1998. He has two children in the district. His daughter Riley will graduate in 2018, and Addyson will graduate from Flour Bluff 2024. Mr. Grunberg is very involved in the construction community and is excited to work with the district during this time of unprecedented growth.
Dr. Jim Needham was elected to serve on the Board in May 20, 2011 and re-elected in November 2014. He is a retired Dean of Community Outreach from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. He has a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Construction and a Ph.D. in Architecture from Texas A&M University. He has two sons and a daughter who graduated from Flour Bluff. Dr. Needham is a Nueces County Coastal Parks Commissioner, serves as Regional Chair for the State Employee Charitable Campaign, and is active on several area committees and councils. He and his wife, Dr. Alicia Needham, reside on Padre Island.
Jeff Rank attended Flour Bluff schools from the time he began kindergarten all the way through his graduation in 1993. Inspired by his FBHS Oceans teacher, David Bartling, Jeff earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Sciences and a Master of Science degree in Oceanography, both from Texas A&M University. His research focused on computer modeling and exploration of submerged cave systems in the Yucatan using modern cave diving techniques. After working in marine policy for several years, Jeff went to law school at University of Houston, then returned home to Flour Bluff and opened his own law firm. His law practice includes civil litigation, family law and probate. Jeff and his wife, Nicole, have been married 21 years and have 2 children, both of whom attend Flour Bluff.
Jennifer Welp was elected to the board in November 2016. She is a 1992 graduate of Flour Bluff and has a Bachelor’s in Business Management from Southwest Texas State University and a MBA from Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi. Jennifer and her husband Rick were high school sweethearts and have two sons and a daughter all who attend FBISD. Jennifer is President of a local earth moving business with a fleet of dump trucks. Jennifer is very active in the Flour Bluff community and serves on many community and civic boards. Jennifer Welp was elected to the board in November 2016.
