**Natatorium Construction Update**
During facility planning needs for Bond 2013, the Bond Committee originally allocated part of the Bond monies to construct a Natatorium with a 50-meter pool and diving well. The original bid amount for the Natatorium was $9.5 million in construction cost and $2.3 million in soft-cost for a total of $11.8 million, almost $4 million dollars over budget. The Board of Trustees, committed to building a swimming complex with a 50-meter pool, worked with the engineering design team in an attempt to bring cost down. The second bid came in $2.5 million dollars over budget. At that point, it became apparent the District could not afford to build a Natatorium with a 50-meter pool. The FBISD Board of Trustees approved to build the new Natatorium with a 25-meter competition pool. The engineering firm and architect firm teams worked with the District’s swim coach and designed a competitive pool facility that will be first-class. The Natatorium will house a 25-meter competition pool with diving, coaches’ offices, training and locker rooms, and a concession area.
Construction has begun and is set to be complete during the summer of 2017.
