ECC Parking Lot is Open and Already Easing Traffic
Thanks to Bond 2025, parking lot improvements at the Flour Bluff Early Childhood Center are nearly complete and already improving traffic flow, safety, and access for students, families, staff, and the community. Construction began June 1 and was led by Weaver & Jacobs Inc.
A key priority of the project was easing congestion during peak drop off and pick up times. Through a major expansion of campus parking, the project reduced overcrowding and helped minimize the vehicle backups that had affected both the campus and the surrounding roadways. The additional parking capacity also will help accommodate traffic demand during events at nearby Hornet Stadium.
Based on recommendations from the districtwide traffic study conducted by Pape-Dawson Engineers as part of Bond 2025 planning, the project added new entrances and exits along Purdue Road to improve traffic circulation. These improvements are providing relief at the intersection of Waldron Road and Purdue Road by distributing traffic more evenly, reducing bottlenecks, and creating a more efficient flow of vehicles entering and exiting the campus.
The project also improved walkability around the campus, making it safer and easier for students and community members to use the sidewalks. Along with smoother traffic, families now have safer paths to walk to and from campus.
The work was completed before the start of the school year, ensuring these traffic improvements were in place when students, families, and staff returned to campus. New Lighting is in the process of being installed.
