NJROTC

Flour Bluff High School has been a Navy Distinguished Unit with Academic Honors since the 1994-1995 school year. The Navy Manager for NJROTC has indicated that there is no program anywhere in the nation that is as well rounded and as well run as Flour Bluff’s. The unit strives to be leaders in Community Service, in Cadet Involvement, in Academic Achievement, in Competitive Teams, and these efforts are coupled with similar strengths in every other measurable criteria of excellence. There is no program in the Nation that would come close to approaching the sustained level of superior performance and excellence displayed by the Unit at Flour Bluff High School.

The Flour Bluff High School unit has been a Texas State Champion 22 times, has been a Navy National Champion 11 times, has been a Navy National Academic Champion 5 times, and has been an All-Service National High School Drill Team Champion 14 times. The Navy League has recognized the NJROTC Unit at Flour Bluff as the Best Unit in Texas multiple times and as the Best Unit in the Nation on two separate occasions.

Unit Records

Overview

Over the span of the past 20 years, this Unit has been a Navy recognized unit for 19 of those years. Flour Bluff holds the record for the most Navy National Championships ever earned by any unit in the history of the competition…11 Navy National titles, 10 of them were earned consecutively. Additionally, of the over 3000 Junior ROTC high school programs in the nation, Flour Bluff’s armed and unarmed drill teams are the only Navy teams to have ever won the all-service National championships in Daytona Beach, FL (9 unarmed national titles, and 7 armed national titles). Academically, the Flour Bluff NJROTC Unit is one of the finest units in the Nation as well. Annually, a National test is administered to over 1500 teams. Flour Bluff has won that competition twice, and has placed second 4 times. Flour Bluff is ranked in the Nation academically. Our unit has had an amazing track record in getting scholarships for its cadets to some of the finest Universities in the country…our students have graduated or are currently attending the U.S. Naval Academy, the United States Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Additionally, Flour Bluff students have received scholarships to Harvard University, to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), to Rice University, to Texas A&M University, to the University of Texas, to Texas Tech University, to Prairie View A&M University, and to many other of our country’s finest institutions of higher learning.
