Velma Soliz-Garcia lends her expertise from a 32-year career in education. She currently serves as the Superintendent of Schools for Flour Bluff ISD. Prior to taking the helm in FBISD, Mrs. Soliz-Garcia served as the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction in Gregory-Portland Independent School District. In this role, she oversaw District Directors and Instructional Specialists who, with her leadership, have exponentially strengthened academic programs and services across the district.
Soliz-Garcia served Flour Bluff ISD from 1997-2004 and held several positions including Director of Federal Programs/Curriculum & Instruction, Principal and Assistant Principal. Her resolve to improve standards of educational excellence and address student needs have benefited Texas schoolchildren in other districts including Alice, Ramirez, Mathis, Sinton and Corpus Christi ISDs, where she served in various roles as a former Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, District Director, School Principal, Assistant Principal, Teacher and Classroom Aide.

Mrs. Soliz-Garcia understands the importance of service to the community. She is currently serving her 16th year on the Board of Directors for Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend. She also serves on the Board of Directors for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coastal Bend.
She earned a Master of Science and Bachelor of Science in Education/Administration from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Education through Walden University.
She and her husband have two adult sons, one of which is a teacher in Sinton ISD and the other a Del Mar College graduate and is employed in the field of technology.
