Kindergarten students at Flour Bluff Early Childhood Center celebrated Cinco de Mayo on Thursday, May 4. Students learned traditional Mexican Folklorico songs and dances and performed a variety of dances during the campus’ Cinco de Mayo festivities. Attendees also had an opportunity to take part in a Grito shouting contest. Kindergarten teacher, Jennifer Sherard, took home the prize for best shout during the contest.
Ballet Folklorico instructor, Amy Sanchez, from Ballet Ilusión volunteered and taught the students the dances. During the Cinco de Mayo celebration, members of Ballet Ilusión performed traditional Mexican dances for the students.
Students performed the following dances:
“La Raspa” – Ms. Almaguer & Ms. Torrez Classes
“El Baile de Los Viejitos” – Ms. Martinez Class
“Guadalajara” – Ms. Montiel Class
“Jarabe Tapatio” – Ms. Pesek Class
