FBHS NJROTC wins 22nd State Competition

For the 22nd year, the Flour Bluff HS Naval Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corpus (NJROTC) has been crowned state champions at the NJROTC Texas State Championship held the last weekend of February. Of the 22 years the Flour Bluff NJROTC program has been state champions, 21 of those years have been consecutive wins.

The Naval Reserve Officers’ Training Corpus (NROTC) Unit at Texas A&M University hosts the annual state competition in College Station. The competition includes NJROTC units from high schools across the state of Texas. The two-day competition includes armed and unarmed regulation drills, armed and unarmed exhibition drills, color guard, physical fitness and academics. Sixteen teams from across Texas competed in this year’s statewide competition.

The FBHS NJROTC swept the competition. A few notable awards received include 1st place Drill Overall, Unarmed Regulation Drill 1st place and Armed Exhibition Drill 1st place.

Additional trophies and awards include:

1st Place – Unarmed Exhibition Drill
1st Place – Color Guard
1st Place – Academics Overall – Individual medals: Jack Hodges, Davie Nguyen, William O’Conner and Leora Ojadi
2nd Place Armed Regulation
3rd Place – Physical Fitness Overall – Individual medals: Ashley Graves, Faith Knight, Jey Livings and Patrick Sullivan
3rd Place – Inspection Overall

Flour Bluff advances to the national competition that will be held in Daytona Beach, Florida, in early May.
