Flour Bluff High School’s first Lockdown Drill for the school year was a collaborative effort between the Flour Bluff ISD Police Department, FBISD administrators, Nueces County Sheriff’s Office, and the Texas Department of Public Safety. Law Enforcement officers could participate in the Lockdown Drill and familiarize themselves with the High School campus. Officers serving the area provided feedback, suggestions, and recommendations to improve the Flour Bluff ISD Police Department in the event an active threat comes onto the campus. The Flour Bluff ISD Police Department would like to thank all involved and looks forward to working alongside these and all the surrounding agencies in the future.
Flour Bluff ISD has recently applied to the state to receive ballistic shields for its officers on campuses. The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority following the recent school massacre in Uvalde. The district hopes to receive 8 ballistic shields for the FBISD Police Department. These ballistic shields are made to stop ammunition, from handguns to rifles. The governor and Texas legislature recently transferred $105.5 million to support additional school safety and mental health initiatives due to the Uvalde shooting. The ballistic shields are part of this initiative. Ballistic shields for schools are part of that $50 million, and $3 million will be invested in ALERRT active shooter training. The ALERRT program trains first responders in a situation like Uvalde.
