The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has announced that Flour Bluff Intermediate has been designated a Purple Star Campus for meeting the unique needs of military connected students and their families. This is the first time TEA has awarded this designation and Flour Bluff Intermediate is the only school in the Region to receive the designation.
“We are truly honored and humbled to be recognized as a Purple Star campus,” said Dr. Sal Alvarado, Flour Bluff Intermediate Principal. “The Flour Bluff Intermediate faculty and staff are grateful for the opportunity to support our military families and all the sacrifices our Veterans and their families have made and continue to make to protect our freedom. It does not go unnoticed and is greatly appreciated. God Bless all the brave men and women who proudly serve our country.”
The Purple Star Designation was created by the 86th Texas Legislature through SB 1557. The designation signifies the support and resources a school provides its military-connected student population. A school must meet certain criteria to apply for the designation including having a campus-based military liaison who supports military families through resources, including online resources, campus-based programs, student transition program and campus-wide initiatives.
Campuses that satisfy the criteria and are awarded the Purple Star Campus Designation are eligible to recertify the designation every two school years. TEA will provide Flour Bluff Intermediate with a special Purple Star recognition to display.
