Following Spring Break, the District kicked-off the process of setting belief statements that will lead the District to a strategic plan for the next five years. The Board of Trustees and Superintendent Velma Soliz-Garcia participated in Team of 8 training and Self-Analysis Team Trust Exercise with Dr. Greg Gibson and Dr. Buck Gilcrease from Moak, Casey and Associates on Wednesday, March 17. The District’s Senior Cabinet and Campus Administration also participated in a workshop with the individuals from Moak, Casey and Associates on Thursday, March 18. The week’s activities culminated with an evening meeting with the FBISD Community Action Committee (CAC) who began work setting the Belief Statements.

The belief statements are ideas concepts or choices the District will use to become a part of our culture and reflect the common values of the community. Belief statements will be a driver for the development of a new mission, vision and goals for the District. During the CAC meeting, community members developed belief statements for the following groups:

  • Students
  • Parents
  • Faculty and Staff
  • Principal & Campus Leadership
  • Superintendent & Central Office
  • Board of Trustees

The individuals on the FBISD CAC were selected by the Flour Bluff ISD Board of Trustees. Each Board Member invited four individuals to serve on the FBISD CAC. The meeting was the first of additional meetings that will be held as the strategic planning process continues.

As the district develops the strategic plan, Superintendet Soliz-Garcia will be conducting listening and learning tours. She kicked-off the first one on March 19th with the newly formed High School Leadership Council which includes the Superintendent and Flour Bluff High School students. A few of the high school students also attended the Community Action Committee meeting and will be part of the strategic planning process. Superintendent Soliz-Garcia also meet with a Junior High Leadership Council on March 23rd to listen and learn from students at Flour Bluff Junior High about their ideas for the future.

“The development of a strategic plan for the district will be a continuous improvement process for FBISD as the District shifts the needle to becoming a premier school district,” said Superintendent Velma Soliz-Garcia.
