Google and Congressman Blake Farenthold were on-hand today at Flour Bluff Junior High for an interactive event teaching students the importance of internet safety. Representatives from Google spoke during the Online Safety Roadshow, an assembly developed by Google specifically for middle school students providing tips on how to be safe when online.
In a press release, Congressman Farenthold said, “It is critical that students understand basic cyber safety rules from a young age to protect their information online.” He added, “I’m grateful that Google is teaching students about internet privacy with social media threats in an engaging way.”
Flour Bluff Junior High 8th grader, Hannah Hooper, kicked-off the assembly by introducing Congressman Farenthold who had students compete in a password face-off challenge. Two Google employees delivered the 45-minute presentation to approximately 100 students. The interactive presentation focused on five tips for staying safe and smart online. Topics included thinking before you share, setting strong passwords, using settings, identifying online scams and being positive online.
The Google Online Safety Roadshow program is designed to educate parents and middle school aged students on how to be safe online. The Online Safety Roadshow assist schools across the country in educating students on the importance of keeping their digital footprint secure.
