Meet Miss Penny. She’s the new star at Flour Bluff High School who’s helping the campus raise money for new technology for students and classrooms. For two weeks, the school is holding the ‘Kiss the Pig’ fundraiser. Two campus administrators, James Crenshaw, FBHS Principal, and Ron Fisher, Director of Security, are battling it out to try and collect the most money in their ‘Kiss the Pig’ collection boxes. After two weeks, whoever has the most money in their box gets the privilege of kissing Miss Penny.
“This idea came about from my out-of-the-box thinking Administrative Assistant, Mrs. Marilee Henson,” said James Crenshaw, Flour Bluff High School Principal and ‘Kiss the Pig’ contestant. “The fundraiser is a great way to raise money for much needed computers for students and classrooms and have a little fun at the same time.”
Miss Penny visited Flour Bluff High School half-way through the fundraiser to meet the two contestants and drum-up excitement for the ‘Kiss the Pig’ fundraiser. Although she was more excited about enjoying her favorite snack, strawberries, she looked adorable in a tutu and headband in Flour Bluff school colors.
Both Mr. Crenshaw and Mr. Fisher have said the other person is going to win the contest. However, they can’t do it without the help of students, staff, parents and community. They are encouraging anyone to stop by and slip a few dollar bills into the box of the candidate they would like to see ‘Kiss the Pig.’ They are working to collect approximately $8,000 for a cart of Chrome Books. Fundraiser is lasting until Thursday, October 18.
So when is all this kissing going to take place? Miss Penny will be back to make her debut appearance for the whole student body during the Homecoming Pep Rally on Friday, October 19, at the High School Varsity Gym.
We can’t wait to find out who the lucky winning contestant will be. Oink…Oink.
