Eighty-one Flour Bluff High School students took part in the annual Health Science Program Pinning Ceremony on May 22. Students received a pin for completing the Certified Nurses Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, Phlebotomy or EKG Technician certifications.
The pinning ceremony was a way to recognize the students who choose a pathway in the Health Science Program while in high school. The certifications are received through a partnership with Del Mar College. To achieve certification, students must pass certain prerequisite courses, take part in a hands-on semester course and successfully pass a certification exam. The rigorous certifications are the first steps for many of the students in a career in the healthcare industry.
This year was the second year to hold the Health Science Pinning Ceremony. The number of recipients doubled from last year.
Representatives from Del Mar College, health science teachers and campus and District Administrators were on-hand to recognize the students.
