Overview

The Flour Bluff ISD Department of Special Education provides students with services and support to achieve success through the general education curriculum. A complete continuum of services is available on all campuses to support academic, behavioral, social, functional, vocational, and communication needs for all qualifying students. Services that include occupational therapy, physical therapy, counseling, speech, and transportation, are also provided for students who meet the eligibility criteria.

Child Find

Child Find is a component of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) 2004. This program requires school districts and charter schools to locate, evaluate and identify any student with a disability ages birth to 21 years. For more information, please call (361) 694-9231.

Dyslexia & Related Disorders

Dyslexia, in tandem with its affiliated disorders, constitutes a distinctive realm of learning disabilities with neurobiological underpinnings. While primarily characterized by difficulties in accurate word recognition, spelling, and decoding due to phonological deficits, its consequences extend to diminished reading comprehension and restricted reading exposure, thereby impeding vocabulary growth and foundational knowledge acquisition. Under the encompassing term “Dyslexia & Related Disorders,” addressing these challenges mandates a comprehensive approach that acknowledges both immediate impediments and their far-reaching educational implications.
