As the summer starts to set, two Flour Bluff athletes shine at its brightest, seniors Madison Hale and Hayle Campbell. Both are four years starters and also know what it feels like to be in the playoff atmosphere. The Flour Bluff High School Girls Basketball team has made it to the region tournament three out of the past four years.
Campbell has been in all three appearances including a state tournament appearance in 2017. Her most memorable game in her high school career so far was against the number two ranked team, Mansfield Timberview, scoring 18 points including an astonishing half court buzzer beater to end the first quarter of the game but falling 66-41.
“It was my favorite game because I got to say we made it to state,” Campbell said.
For head girls basketball coach, James McMinn, Hayle isn’t the first player to make it to the All-Star game. Additional All-Star players include, Sarah McMillen in 2015, Claudia Curtis in 2016, and Meredith Marcum in 2017. For McMinn, he’s super proud of what she’s accomplished.
“To be with the ability level of coaching and she has a God given talent and she’s worked hard over the summer and it’s a testament and dedication over development and a lot of sacrifice on their part,” McMinn said.
Campbell, a Texas A&M-Corpus Christi commit, dropped 7 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists during last year’s season and will be a huge piece of the 2018-2019 season.
“Her committing to TAMUCC helped her play more comfortable and I think she’s in for a big year this year,” McMinn said.
Hayle says her goal is be to be the best and as a team make it deep in the UIL playoffs and the region tournament for the fourth year in a row. In softball, Madison Hayle, a Tyler Junior college verbal commit and plays catcher and right field, has a batting average of .577, a batting percentage .653 and a slugging percentage of .872. She has been the powerhouse impact player as a four year starter on varsity.
“Madi is a big asset to the team and has great leadership skills which makes us a stronger team,” said Head Softball Coach Angela Scott.
Hale was been named team captain for this upcoming season. Additional captains for the 2019 season, include teammates Stacia Krnavek, Emilee Carter and Dakota Miller.
With Madi Hale’s eye popping numbers she’s excited for the new season.
“Our goal is to make playoffs and as an individual to have a really good bond with the team,” Hale said.
In her junior year she had 28 singles, 13 doubles, 2 triples, 24 RBI’s and 2 home runs and led the team with 12 stolen bases. In the All-Star game she was 1 for 3 and played right field, something new for Hale.
“It was very fun but intimidating,” she said. “You don’t know anyone there but it was fun making new friends.
Madison’s favorite game from the 2018 season was against Calallen High School Softball in the regular season.
“We played hard as a team and it was a game where we showed the most spirit,” she said.
For these two already very successful athletes the start of their senior year is shining bright and on the perfect track.
