Bond 2025 Construction: Turf Installation Update
Construction at Flour Bluff’s baseball and softball fields has reached an exciting stage. Turf is now fully installed on the softball field—which the team is already using for practice—and is nearly complete on the baseball field, with Hellas Construction leading the turf installation.
The fields feature Hellas’s innovative Thermoblend system, a mix of Ecotherm cooling technology and Elia Renufill. This organic combination keeps the playing surface up to 30 degrees cooler than traditional rubber, ensuring a safer environment for athletes in the Texas heat. Additionally, the blend provides superior stability and natural ball bounce, delivering high-performance playability comparable to natural grass.
Ongoing work includes the new dugouts for both fields, being built by Ewing Construction, the installation of the batting cages, and the extension of the softball backstop wall. Fencing and scoreboard installations on both fields are nearly finished, bringing the project closer to full completion.
Once finished, the new turf fields will provide reliable, year-round playing surfaces while using far less water than natural grass. This improvement will save thousands of gallons annually and reduce long-term costs by eliminating the need for re-sodding, chemical treatments, and heavy equipment, helping the district manage resources responsibly for years to come.
Thanks to the ongoing support of the Flour Bluff, Padre Island, Naval Air Station, and Corpus Christi Army Depot communities, Flour Bluff ISD remains committed to transparency and responsible stewardship throughout all Bond 2025 projects. These upgrades are already making a lasting impact on students, programs, and facilities across the district.
