FBISD Board approves waiver to extend remote learning until October 5

During a Special Called Board Meeting on August 11, the Flour Bluff ISD Board of Trustees voted to submit a waiver to the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to extend remote instruction an additional four weeks. This additional four-week waiver will provide further time to prepare for a safe return to campus for students, teachers and staff. TEA provides this opportunity for districts to restrict access to on-campus instruction if the district feels it is in the best interest of the health and safety of students and staff.

“Moving forward with the waiver provides the District extra time to see if positivity rates of the virus go down,” said Joe Kelley FBISD Acting Superintendent. “We understand this may be inconvenient for some, but feel this is the best course of action for the safety and welfare of our students, staff and community.”

Flour Bluff ISD is beginning the school year on August 13 with remote instruction for all students. The additional four-week waiver will push the start of on-campus or face-to-face instruction into the first week of October. The District had already implemented remote instruction to continue until September 8.

On August 24, the District received final approval from TEA on the waiver to extend the return to campus transition period. Therefore, this transition period will continue through Friday, October 2. Beginning Monday, October 5, students will have the option to take part in their learning program of choice, remote or on-campus instruction.
