October 8, 2024 (Corpus Christi, Texas) – Recently, the Corpus Christi sailing teams sailed in the Coastal Bend Regatta and Girls National Invitational Qualifier. The event was attended by four schools that were vying for the two guaranteed berths in the national regatta. Houston’s Clear Lake High School and Flour Bluff High School teams are now qualified to attend the PCISA Girls National Invitational, the only girls high school championship in high school racing. They will be traveling to San Diego on October 17th to sail against the best girl’s teams in the nation. This accomplishment is impressive for a Flour Bluff team that learned to sail only seven months ago.
Congratulations to:

”"These young ladies have put in countless hours of practice and have worked hard to get to this point," exclaimed Amy Seeds, Principal of Flour Bluff High School. "Their competitiveness, determination, and dedication are impressive to me, especially for achieving this great accomplishment in such a short amount of time. I am so proud of each of them! Go Hornets!"
Berths (school entries) are allocated to each division in the nation based on the number of high schools in each division. This division, SEISA, received two berths. The qualified teams are the two fastest teams in the seven-state region that attended the qualifier. To compete in the National Invite requires a full squad of four to eight sailors. Flour Bluff’s High School girls squad has six sailors. Four starters and two relief. The competition will be from 1100am-4pm continuously for Saturday and Sunday. There are 30 schools slated to compete. This regatta is referred to as the Girls Nationals and is essentially the national girl’s championship.
The mission of CCYC is to promote the sport of sailing. The club has a very high interest in Jr. sailing, high school, and college sailing promotion.
