During a Special Called Board Meeting today, Sunday, May 5, the Flour Bluff ISD Board of Trustees voted to name Dr. David Freeman as the Lone Finalist for the next Superintendent of Schools for Flour Bluff Independent School District. State law requires the Board to wait 21 days before a contract is signed and the superintendent is officially hired.
Dr. Freeman is currently the Superintendent of Schools for London Independent School District where he has served the District since 2014. Dr. Freeman was also the Superintendent of Schools in Montague ISD for five years and the Chief Academic Officer/Associate Superintendent in Wichita Falls ISD. Additionally, he’s been a principal, assistant principal, teacher, coach and was an Adjunct Professor at North Central Texas College.
Dr. Freeman completed his Doctorate in Education at Texas Wesleyan University. He received his master’s degree from the University of North Texas and a Bachelor of Science from Midwestern State University.
Dr. Freeman is active in the community and currently serves as the Board President for the Boys’ and Girls’ Club of the Coastal Bend and has volunteered as a coach in a variety of youth sports organizations. He and his wife, Cassie, have three school-aged children.
The superintendent search process began in January and was led by Interim Superintendent, Joe Kelley. An online survey, staff input meetings and a public input meeting were held for students, staff and community members to provide feedback on the qualities and characteristics of the next superintendent of schools. The Board of Trustees compiled the information to help determine the profile and qualifications the superintendent should possess. Applications were accepted during March; the vetting process took place in April. A total of 46 applicants from across the nation applied for the position. Three candidates were interviewed for the position over a two-day period.
“The superintendent search has been a thorough process,” said Shirley Thornton, President Flour Bluff ISD Board of Trustees. “I’m confident Dr. Freeman is the perfect fit as our next Superintendent of Schools. His familiarity of the community, his experience as a superintendent and his depth of school district
knowledge will help to lead our district forward.”
Following the required 21-day waiting period, the FBISD Board of Trustees is expected to vote and officially name Dr. Freeman during the regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Trustees on Thursday, May 30.
