The H-E-B Excellence in Education awards are designed to honor outstanding public school professionals and to thank them for their dedication and commitment to the students in their area. The H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards is the largest monetary awards program for educators in Texas and one of the largest in the nation. Since the program’s inception, H-E-B has awarded more than $12 million in funding to benefit outstanding Texas public schools. These awards are separated into several categories:

  • The Teacher Award recognizes teachers who show passion and commitment to the teaching profession, innovation and creativity in the classroom, and professional growth and development.
  • The Principal Award recognizes principals who excel in campus leadership and culture, instructional leadership, and management and effectively communicate with their community.
  • The District Award recognizes school districts and their commitment to student achievement through innovative programs, parent/community involvement, and professional development opportunities for teachers and administrators.
  • The School Board Award recognizes school boards that have demonstrated real leadership in the community that it serves.
  • The Early Childhood Award supports public or private schools that focus on the care and education of children under the age of five. The purpose of the award is to offer support to help create or enhance Kinder Readiness programs that prepare children to enter Kindergarten socially and academically ready to learn.

Through this program, H-E-B seeks to pay tribute to educators who go the extra mile each and every day to serve their students and community and inspire others to do the same. Each year, the Excellence in Education award gives away $700,000 in cash awards and grants to eight educators, two school districts, an early childhood agency, and a public school board to assist with the expansion of their incredible programs.
