The Oceans Program started Kinder Kayaking last year with Mrs. Azua’s kindergarten class. It was such as success that it was written into a grant from Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Flour Bluff Intermediate 6th graders work with pre-k, kindergarten, and 1st-grade students. And the program is not only helping to teach kindergarten but the Flour Bluff Junior High 7th and 8th-grade students work with 2nd and 3rd-grade students.
The students who lead the young scientists are 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students that have shown strong leadership or science skills. They focus on five different stations: bird watching, animal holding, water nature trail, kayaking, and scoop netting. The students completely lead the stations.
