Construction is officially underway at Flour Bluff Junior High as the first phase of major campus improvements begins through the 2025 Bond program. These projects mark the start of the Junior High’s major mechanical, electrical, and plumbing renovations designed to improve long term reliability, efficiency, sustainability, and learning environments across the campus.
The renovation work includes major upgrades to core building systems, including new ceiling grid and ceiling tile replacement, modern lighting installation, replacement HVAC units in classrooms, updated ductwork, and the installation of brand new chilled water piping throughout the campus to replace aging infrastructure. New modern climate control systems will provide more consistent and comfortable classroom settings for students and staff while also improving overall energy and water efficiency across the campus. Initial construction activity is now taking place in the campus 500 Hall as crews begin the first phase of work.
With continued uncertainty surrounding regional water supply concerns, these infrastructure improvements are also designed to support long term conservation and system reliability. Installing new chilled water piping and updated mechanical systems will help improve efficiency, reduce maintenance issues tied to aging infrastructure, and better position the district for future operational needs.
The project is being managed by Weaver & Jacobs with support from Facilities Solutions Group handling electrical work, Rex Industries leading sheet metal installation, and the dedicated Flour Bluff ISD Maintenance Department working alongside contractors throughout the process.
Most of the heavier construction work will take place during summer months to minimize disruptions during the school year. This early start effort will continue over the next two years as the campus undergoes a full MEP transformation that modernizes critical infrastructure systems while supporting safer, more reliable, and more efficient learning spaces for future generations of Hornets.
These improvements reflect Flour Bluff ISD’s continued commitment to maintaining strong schools and investing in facilities that serve students, staff, and the community with Class, Pride, and Heart.
Thanks to the ongoing support of the Flour Bluff, Padre Island, Naval Air Station, and Corpus Christi Army Depot communities, Flour Bluff ISD remains committed to transparency and responsible stewardship throughout all Bond 2025 projects. These upgrades are already making a lasting impact on students, programs, and facilities across the district.
