Before the district swim teams officially moved into the Flour Bluff ISD natatorium in 2017, we had Wranosky Pool. Initially, it was a 5-lane, 25-meter pool with one-meter and three-meter diving boards. At the time, Flour Bluff Independent School District was one of the first in the area to have a pool on campus. Meets were held there when it was first built, and during its time, it served as a source of swim lessons for the community. Up until the 2017-2018 season, Wranosky Pool was the training home for Flour Bluff swimming.
Included within the FBISD 2013 Bond was the project for a new 34,000-square-foot, UIL-compliant natatorium. In the Spring of 2016, school officials broke ground and by June 2017 the new FBISD Natatorium opened, and with it came all kinds of new opportunities. The Natatorium’s upgrades include nine more lanes, state-of-the-art starting blocks, two one-meter diving boards, deck space to hold large meets like Hornet TISCA (which brings teams from all over Texas to Flour Bluff each November), and more space for year-round swimming for team SWARM. This extra space has enabled team SWARM to expand its numbers on the high school and junior high teams, which, combined, have grown to 130 swimmers.
The new facility has been a game changer for our Flour Bluff 6th grade, Junior High, and High School athletic programs. It is truly a home for our Flour Bluff ISD swimmers and the incredible staff that continue to keep this legacy strong.
